"THE WAY OF DIVINE LOVE" Early edition in English of this "amplification" of Un Appel a L'Amour, complete with a frontispiece portrait of Sister Josefa and a pleasing mid-century dust jacket. Sister Josefa Menendez died in December, 1923 at thirty-three years old. Shortly before her death, the Lord appeared to her with this Message: "My words will be light and life for an incalculable number of souls, and I will grant them special graces of conversion and illumination." The book, drawn from her notes, written day-by-day, consists of three parts, arranged chronologically from 1890 to 1923: Book One. The Messenger of the Heart of Jesus, Book Two. The Message of Love Part I, Book Three. The Message of Love Part II. The Contents page is followed by a cautionary Declaration on the nature and authority to determine sanctity but the Message nevertheless found favor in the hierarchy. Eugenio Pacelli, as Cardinal Protector of the Society of the Sacred Heart, was an early champion of the Message and gave his public blessing to Un Appel a L'Amour when it was first published (in Toulouse in 1938). The Second World War intervened and the book did not appear in English until 1949. This printing of the translation was published in January 1953, with a facsimile of the endorsement of Cardinal Pacelli (now reigning as Pope Pius XII) "reproduced with the Holy Father's consent." This edition adds preliminary and concluding materials to provide careful context to Sister Josefa's Message: a short Foreword, a lengthy Introduction (by H. Monier Vinard, S.J.) followed by a Conclusion (by Rev. Father Fr. Charmot, S.J.), Appendix: A Few Supplementary Notes of Josefa's on Hell and The Teachings of Purgatory. Analytical Index. Approbations.
