Splendid limited edition of Valenti Angelo's The Book of Ruth, a notable achievement by a giant of the Book Arts of the twentieth-century. Valenti Angelo was one of the great American artists working with books as a medium, creating a steady stream of book illustrations, illuminations and decorations for a host of fine art and commercial publishers. The Book of Ruth was a labor-intensive collaboration with Edwin and Robert Grabhorn of San Francisco's influential Grabhorn Press. Angelo created a vibrant frontispiece, printed with wood blocks in six colors (signed by Angelo underneath in pencil), and the text is illuminated and initialed throughout. One of only 150 copies, printed on unbleached Arnold hand-made paper and bound in full vellum, with a hand-lettered title on the spine. The American Institute of Graphic Arts cited the book as one of the "Books of the Year" for 1926. This copy bears the bookplate of the Robert Strong collection of Grabhorn Press Books. Original Grabhorn edition card, detailing the specifications for The Book of Ruth, is laid-in. An outstanding example of fine bookmaking.
