"SO BE THOU ANNOINTED, BLESSED, AND CONSECRATED QUEEN OVER THE PEOPLES"

Oxford University Press edition of the Form and Order of the Service in the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II—in a deluxe binding of burgundy morocco with the Queen's gilt cipher. An exceptional example of a regal production.

King George VI died in February 1952. His eldest daughter Elizabeth succeeded her father, who had ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII (the Duke of Windsor) in 1936. Elizabeth's coronation in June 1953 at Westminster Abbey was televised for the first time. Now the longest-lived and longest-reigning monarch in British history, Queen Elizabeth is also the longest-serving female head of state in world history, the world's oldest living monarch, longest-reigning current monarch, and oldest and longest-serving current head of state.

Printed in red-and-black on cream wove paper by Charles Batey (Printer to Oxford University), the Form and Order consists of 17 parts: I. The Preparation, II. The Entrance into the Church, III. The Recognition, IV. The Oath, V. The Presenting of the Holy Bible, VI. The Beginning of the Communion Service, VII. The Anointing, VIII. The Presenting of the Spurs and Sword, and the Oblation of the said Sword, IX. The Investing with the Armills, the Stole Royal and the Robe Royal; and the Delivery of the Orb, X. The Investiture per Annulum, et per Sceptrum et Baculum, XI. The Putting on of the Crown, XII. The Benediction, XIII. The Inthroning, XIV. The Homage, XV. The Communion, XVI. The Te Deum Laudamus, XVII. The Recess. The concluding leaf prints both verses of the National Anthem: "God Save the Queen."
