"FROM THE AGE OF THREE I HAVE NEVER REFUSED OUR GOOD GOD ANYTHING"
Handsome copy of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux: The Little Flower of Jesus, the Authorized American Reproduction of the Definitive Edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Saint Thérèse and nine additional photogravures.
Published in the aftermath of the Little Flower's canonization in May 1925, this is a vade mecum devoted to the Saint with a complete translation of The Autobiography at the center. Written in obedience to the request of a superior, The Story of a Soul "is a book that might as well have been subtitled 'The Making of a Saint,' for essentially it is about the path to holiness in everyday life" (Robert Ellsberg). A Scottish priest, Rev. T.N. Taylor, provides the text with a Prologue ("Feast of the Annunciation. March 25, 1926") and an Epilogue.
The volume also collects Counsels and Reminiscences, Letters, Selected Poems, Prayers, and Shower of Roses: The Little Flower and the Missions. This edition includes a chapter on Her Conquest of America: "Among the lands where the Little Flower is dearly loved the United States of America hold not merely a high, but probably the highest place." The text concludes with an Appeal for the Basilica of the Little White Flower at Lisieux. Printed in the United States with English Approbations. Robert Ellsberg. All Saints: Daily Reflections on Saints, Prophets, and Witnesses for Our Time.
