"STYLES OF CHURCH ARCHITECTURE FROM THE CONQUEST TO THE REFORMATION"
Ancient Doorways and Windows—a splendid architectural guide which unfolds to reveal a large chart of engraved designs of the Gothic Revival. Ready for framing.
The eldest son of the church architect Francis Octavius Bedford, the younger Bedford began his career as an engraver and lithographer before he took up photography. This architectural handbook was one of several created by Bedford for the publisher John Weale.
"They were low cost, simple publications, aimed at middle-class tourists visiting cathedrals and churches across Britain. Bedford was comfortable with architectural terms and descriptions, having learnt from his architect father Francis Octavius Bedford" (1784–1858).
(Royal Collection Trust). Printed in red-and-black and illustrated with Gothic Revival designs and bound in gilt cloth boards.
