Charming Schwann Guide to the holy sites of Catholic France—illustrated throughout with pen-and-ink sketches including numerous full-page images of churches and cathedrals. Would make a thoughtful gift for a pilgrim or a student.
First published in Germany in 1956, the main section is devoted to the Cathedral Tour, by Wiltrud Mersmann, and concluding with Lourdes ("The City of Bernadette") by Egon Olessak. Designed and illustrated by Adolph Oehlen with additional illustrations by Rainer Flock (buildings) and Helmut Blindow (maps and plans). The rear inner flap describes the Schwann Guides: "Written by art-historians, experts in the respective fields of Christian Art, they are of special appeal to pilgrims and students of Western culture."
