"THE FIRST THING A PRIEST MUST LEARN IS TO SAY LOW MASS. HE DOES SO CONSTANTLY, GENERALLY EVERY MORNING"

Later edition of The Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described—a fully revised and up to date printing of a liturgical classic, complete with the original dust jacket.

First prepared and published in 1917 by Adrian Fortescue, "the greatest authority on the liturgy of the Roman Rite the English-speaking world has ever known" (Michael Davies). Canon J.B. O`Connell stepped in to oversee the preparation of the 1930 third ("revised and augmented") and subsequent editions after Fortescue died in 1923 (at age 49). This eleventh edition consists of the following: Part I. General Principles Concerning Ceremonies, Part II. The Holy Sacrifice, Part III. Evening Services, Part IV. The Liturgical Year, Part V. Occasional Functions. Appendix I. The Installation of a New Parish Priest, Appendix II. The Ceremonies of the Ritual used in the United States. The second appendix was prepared by the Reverend Frederick R. Macmanus, Professor of Liturgy at the Catholic University of America.

Appreciations of the tenth edition (printed on the rear inner flap) included praise from Archdale King, crediting O'Connell with "unfailing and lynx-eyed attention to even the most trivial instruction..."If you see it in O'Connell, it is so.'" With O'Connell's Foreword to the Tenth Edition (June 1958), noting recent new editions of the Roman Missal (1954) and the Roman Ritual (1952) since the publication of the ninth edition in 1951. With a brief Preface by Francis, Archbishop of Birmingham, dated “Archbishop’s House / Edgbaston, Birmingham, 16/16 June 1958." Approbations.
