"FOR WE ARE EASTER PEOPLE AND 'ALLELUIA' IS OUR SONG"

First edition of this illustrated chronicle of Pope John Paul II's momentous "Pilgrimage of Peace" to America in October 1979.

Elected only a year earlier—after the sudden death of Pope John Paul I in the "Year of Three Popes"—Karol Cardinal Wojtyla took the name John Paul II. The Pope arrived in Boston's Logan Airport on October 1, 1979 (immediately following a visit to Ireland) to begin his first pastoral visit to the Catholic Church in the United States. John Paul kissed the ground on the tarmac, a memorable American debut in what was to become a global papacy characterized by an indefatigable ("the world is my parish") travel schedule. Reprinted from L'Observatore Romano, this comprehensive collection of the Pope's public appearances is well illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white photographs and two inserts of color photos. Compiled by the Daughters of St. Paul, the text is supplemented with an extensive index for reference. With printed cards for Novena to St. Paul and "In the Spirit of St. Patrick" (both printed by the DSP) laid-in at the rear. O'Malley, A History of the Popes: From Peter to the Present.

Price: $75.00
