"MEXICO IS A LAND WITH DEEP AND WIDESPREAD DEVOTION TO MARY"
First edition of this lovely illustrated history of the Marian shrines and images of Mexico, "Land of Mary's Wonders."
A lengthy Foreword by Father Cassidy, a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark (dated, "Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1958 / Santa Ursula Xitla / Tlalpan, D. F., Mexico") declares: "The Blessed Virgin Mary, as the most perfect of God's creatures, is the most perfect created likeness, or image, of the Divine perfections, and consequently, after God Himself. must be deserving of the highest veneration, or hyperdulia." This survey is illustrated with a double title page, 28 black-and-white photographic plates, a double-page map and dedicated "in admiration and reverence to those missioners who brought the Faith to Mexico and fostered devotion to the Blessed Virgin in the Land of Mary's Wonders." The map (colored in Marian blue) lists 27 sites, clustered mainly in central Mexico, including 10 which are pontifically crowned, the papal designation for veneration. Popes John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul II, and Francis have since crowned an additional six statues, bringing the total number to 16. With a brief Selected Bibliography of source material in Spanish. Approbations.
