"FRANCIS, GO, REPAIR MY HOUSE THAT THOU SEEST IS ALL IN RUINS" Limited illustrated edition of the Legends of Francis of Assisi—one of 300 copies signed by Bruce Rogers. The text of the Fioretti de San Francesco—Saint Francis Renounces His Heritage, Saint Francis's Marriage to Lady Poverty, Saint Francis Before the Pope, Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio, Saint Francis before the Soldan, Saint Francis Receives the Stigmata, Saint Francis Gives Away His Cloak, The Death of Saint Francis—are illustrated with a frontispiece, a decorated title page, and eight black-and-white architectural plates after the paintings of Sassetta. With a concluding Note, signed by Rogers, explaining his intent in having the text support the illustrations. Despite his "unbelief," Rogers undertook this edition despite "being an unbeliever in miracles, I was never very much interested in the text of the 'Fioretti,' so I conceived this book in which the designs should be the important things, with just enough text to explain them." Printed for the Rowfant Club by Bruce Rogers at the Marchbanks Press, with a limitation statement (numbered in ink) and engraved colophon on the last leaf. Without the original paperboard slipcase, often lacking.
